Andre Yvon Jean-Louis is beaten by group of whites in South Boston.

October 7, 1974

A Haitian immigrant and cab driver, he is pulled from his car and beaten by a group of some 100 whites at the corner of Dorchester Street and Old Colony Avenue. Jean-Louis was on his way to pick up his wife from her job at a laundry in South Boston. He is rescued by Boston police officer Robert Cunningham, who fires two warning shots in the air, convincing the mob to stop its attack.
